Welcome to our 2025 Summer Reading Program. We're so happy you're here!

Everyone is encouraged to join us from June 23—August 4 for six weeks of summer reading fun! We have three groups available: ages 2-5, ages 6-12, and teens/adults.

It's as easy as tracking the library books you read.

We will begin passing out reading logs on June 23, the day of our Kickoff event. Each group will track their reading a little differently! More information on how each program works can be found below.

Our program is designed to be at your own pace, in your own time.

There are only two in-person events and they are geared toward the 6-12 group. Attendance isn't required, but it would be a bummer to miss out!

  • Monday, June 23 at 1:00. Kickoff event with a Picasso Magic Show by Joel Tacey. Open to any interested Summer Reading Program participants.
  • Monday, August 4 at 1:00. Prize drawing event for the 6-12 group.

OUR PROGRAMS

2-5 program details

• Read 8 books per week and track them using the provided reading record. 1 book read equals 1 sticker on the chart.

• Books must be checked out from the Mayville Library collection in order to count. Please read age appropriate books.

• Once you have read 8 books, present your record to the library staff to earn a prize from the treasure chest.

• The reading record you receive in your bag should last you the entirety of the program. We will not have any extra records or stickers available if you complete your sheet early. Please try to stick to the predetermined schedule of 8 books a week in order to get the most out of your summer reading experience.

• There will be an optional craft kit available at the library each week for an extra bit of fun.

• A completed reading record at the end of the program will be rewarded with a special prize.

• The last day to turn in any progress that will count towards prizes is Saturday, August 2, by 2:00.

• Every participant will be rewarded with a free Scholastic book at the end of the program.

6-12 program details

• Every 5 books read earns you a prize ticket. Track them on the provided reading log. Please try to write only one title per line, shorten as needed. Once you’ve read and logged 5 books, show it to the library staff. You will then receive a prize ticket for the drawing.

• There is no limit on how many tickets you can earn. The more tickets you earn, the better your chances are at being drawn earlier for prizes. You will, as always, only be receiving one prize during the drawing, unless you have earned a grand prize.

• Grand prizes are awarded to the readers who have read the most books: the top 2 readers in the 6-8 group and the top 2 readers in the 9-12 group.

• Books must be checked out from the Mayville Library collection in order to count. You must read books at your reading level. Graphic fiction is allowed, as long as they don’t total more than half of your books. Non-fiction is NOT allowed, but we do count biographies.

• There will also be an optional weekly activity that will be completed over the course of the program. Each week there will be a new riddle available at the desk. Complete the task, then show the photo to the library staff to earn a stamp on your card. A full stamp card at the end of the program is rewarded with a special prize.

• The last day to turn in any progress that will count towards prizes is Saturday, August 2, by 2:00. Final prizes will be handed out on August 4.

• Every participant will be rewarded with a free Scholastic book at the end of the program.

Teen and adult program details

• Each book you read equals one “book ticket” for the drawing. On your book ticket you will tell us the title and author of the book you read, as well as your star rating.

• Books must be checked out from the Mayville Library collection in order to count. You must read books at your reading level. Physical books and audiobooks are both acceptable. Graphic fiction is allowed for teens, as long as they don’t total more than half of their books.

• When your first ticket is entered, you will be asked to fill out an “order of preference form” where you will list all the prizes you’d be interested in winning in order of your preference for them. You will only be asked to do this once.

• There is no limit on how many tickets can be earned. The more tickets you earn, the better your chances are at being drawn earlier for prizes. You will, as always, only be receiving one prize during the drawing.

• The last day to turn in any progress that will count towards prizes is Saturday, August 2, by 2:00.

• Winners will be notified via phone after the program has ended. You will be responsible for picking up your prize from the library in a timely manner. We will begin passing out prizes on August 4.
